John Davies and Sons Funeral Directors was established in the 1900's by Mr John Davies of Park Terrace, Trelewis. His trades included a wheelwright, coachbuilder, and undertaker, John Davies Snr was one of the many undertakers in the area serving Treharris, Trelewis and Nelson. At a later stage, he was joined by three of his sons, Emlyn, Elvet and Gwyn, who carried out the duties related to funerals, building repairs and taxi services.
Over time, the business related to coach building and building repairs declined and the main focus of the business became funeral directing. John Davies & Sons Funeral Directors Ltd was incorporated as a Private Limited Company in 1994 and is now run by the grandson of the John Davies Snr.
