Business Overview
For many the thought of arranging a funeral can be daunting. It is something often only done once or twice within a lifetime. Rest assured you are in good hands with Thomas Cuthell and Sons. Your funeral director will meet with you to cover all aspects of organising the funeral.
First of all we will provide advice and guidance on registering the death and the necessary documentation to allow the funeral to go ahead.
When discussing the funeral arrangements, the first key decision is whether to arrange for burial or cremation, this is often determined by the deceased’s own wishes. The type of service can then be discussed, whether this be religious, non-religious or even environmentally friendly. This will often determine whether the service should be held in one venue or split between two, for example church service followed by cremation.
The choice of coffin is of course another big decision. Nowadays there is a large selection available, the funeral director can assist with any bespoke requests.
The finer details can then be discussed such as transport arrangements, musical requests and the printing of service sheets. We can also help with placing an intimation in the newspaper, ordering of flowers and catering arrangements.
The funeral director can also assist with organising ways to personalise the funeral, such as a horse drawn or vintage hearse (we have our own vintage hearse), perhaps a dove release or arranging a piper. Please discuss any requests with your funeral director.
Once the funeral arrangements are confirmed the funeral director will arrange for a written estimate showing the funeral director’s charges separately from any third party expenses, and a written confirmation of all the funeral arrangements. This is a requirement of membership of the National Association of Funeral Directors and the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors.
