I was shocked and saddened to hear that Neil had died so prematurely.. During the time when I was Head of Hertfordshire Libraries, he made a huge contribution to the service. I worked closely with him on some challenging projects, and it was always a pleasure. He was warm, calm and positive, and his unfailing sense of humour could brighten the most difficult of days. He was a valued colleague, and a lovely man.

Neil and I worked together for nearly 25 years. I first met him when I became District Librarian for St Albans and Neil was the Mobile Librarian at Harpenden. He subsequently became Library Manager at St Albans Central Library, where he was a very caring, dedicated, hard-working leader and manager for the local team. We continued to work closely together as he advanced in his career in libraries. I always found Neil to be a great colleague and a super guy - a people person who was great at keeping teams together, always hugely supportive, understanding, sensitive and empathetic, a lover of music and theatre. I will miss him greatly. Gone too soon. Rest in peace, Neil.
