In the last year or so, we've all spent a lot more time in our homes, flats and apartments than ever before due to Coronavirus and the restrictions put in place to combat it. And, if you're anything like me, you've often found yourself wanting a new hobby to engage in. After all, there's only so much television you can watch.

In today's blog I'm going to take a look at 10 potential hobbies to take up which will help keep your mind active and happy.

Walking

With summer here and restrictions easing, what better time to take up walking? The UK is filled with great places to take a stroll, so simply Googling something along the lines of 'Walks in my area' is as good a place as any to start. And if you're walking in the countryside, why not visit a cosy local pub for food and drink afterwards? We even recently did a blog about the top 10 walks in the UK, which you can read here.

Cooking

Of course, you could always cook for yourself! Lockdown has seen the popularity of cooking rise to a level never before seen, with people getting more and more adventurous with their recipes. Why not find a cookbook and choose a recipe at random to make? You may just find your new favourite meal!

Music

Whether playing or listening, we all love a bit of music. But for the older among us, it's easy to miss new songs and bands with your busy day-to-day schedule. Why not be adventurous? Find a new album to listen to and reinvigorate your playlists.

Reading

So many books, so little time. And if you do get time, where on earth do you start? It's often worth going into a bookshop and simply asking a member of staff for recommendations. They may be able to point you to a genre which you've never sampled but fall in love with!

Writing

Everyone's writing nowadays, be it in a diary or online. Why not try and write a story to share with your friends and family? It might be a great tale, and if not you're still sure to enjoy the experience of putting pen to paper.

Cycling

Another ever-growing hobby, cyclists are all over the roads in 2021, and who can blame them? Take advantage of the weather and explore the countryside, all while getting a seriously good work out.

Video Games

From being the best friend of teenage boys to smashing box office records, video gaming has exploded in popularity, and there's a reason why. With so much to choose from on so many different consoles, you're sure to find something for your playing needs.

Television

Ok, I know I said we all might have watched a bit too much TV this year, but with so many streaming services and so much variety, there's sure to be a hidden diamond just waiting for you to discover!

Films

Similar to TV, and with the added bonus of cinemas finally being open again, why not take in a big screen blockbuster? Popcorn is another bonus.

Driving

Most of us use our cars solely to get from A to B, but why not take a scenic drive through the countryside? Combining this with some tunes on the radio will make it even sweeter.
