Did you know stress only started being a subject of studies in the 1950s? This is remarkably late if you consider that stress can impact your health in various ways, both mentally and psychologically.
However, this is part of life as unfortunately you can't always control your circumstances. What you can do is control how you respond to them. Because of that, in this blog we have compiled a list of 5 simple tips which can help you calm your mind and body.
Make sure you block time out of your schedule to do this.
Remember, if you feel better you’ll perform better which means this time is actually contributing to your efficiency rather than just wasting your time.
Physical activity is a key factor to managing stress and improving your mental wellbeing.
You can join a gym, exercise outside, walk or have a good stretch every morning. It’s up to you as long as you keep active!
Talking things through out loud sometimes can help simplify problems or even find solutions!
A good support system of family, friends and colleagues can ease your concerns and help you see things in a different way. Also, any activities you do with these people can help you relax and relieve stress.
“Take a deep breath”. This may seem like a cliché, but it holds true when it comes to stress.
This exercise will only take 3 minutes of your day: sit up in your chair with your feet flat on the floor and hands on top of your knees. Breathe in and out slowly and deeply, concentrating on your lungs as they expand fully in your chest.
While shallow breathing causes anxiety, deep breathing oxygenates your blood, helps centre your body, and clears your mind.
Try to go to sleep at the same time and wake up at the same time every day. Although 7 to 8 hours is the recommended sleep amount, do what feels right for your body.
Taking time to relax beforehand can help the quality of your sleep. Take a bath to relax, watch your favourite TV show or sit quietly and read. Switch off laptops, phones and tablets at least an hour before going to sleep.
