During the pandemic, deaths were commonly being reported by the media as merely a number or a statistic, and it became almost too easy for them to forget that behind every number was an individual person with their own likes, dislikes, hobbies, and friends.

A funeral can be a time when we remember the individual by playing their favourite music, sharing our favourite memories of them, or just looking over old pictures of their happiest times. Now there is even the option of having a personalised coffin that really shows off their personality, and we thought we would share a few of our favourites with you here.

Picture Coffins

What better way to show off what they loved while they lived, than a picture of their favourite animal, flower or landscape that covers the entire coffin. This can be done on the traditional wooden coffin, but we quite like the more environmentally friendly cardboard coffin from Greenfield Coffins. Maybe they were a devout chocolate lover, or someone who loved their lorry driving days, or even a person dedicated to their pet cats; there is a quirky picture coffin to suit just about everyone!

Glitter Coffins

The name of this one tells you just about all you need to know. These sparkly coffins come in 24 different colours from the people at Colourful Coffins. Great for someone who loved to put on a show or just dress to impress, these coffins will definitely stand out at a funeral and show off the deceased’s fun and vibrant personality.

Pathway Coffins

The People at JC Atkinson have created something really bespoke and personal with their Pathway coffin. This natural wood coffin is adorned with photographs and images that really tell the story of who the person was. It can be a collaborative effort by friends and family which can really help bring everyone together, and you can even choose to add a chalkboard lid so that messages of love can be left for the deceased.

The special 7ft coffin marked Jordan's short but beautiful life.
At the end of the day, if you can dream it up, then someone can build it! That’s what the parents of Jordan McCole did when their 21 year old son passed away following a battle with leukaemia. Jordan was a huge Lego fan, and so his parents commissioned a 7ft long bright yellow Lego brick to be built and used as his coffin. Speaking about the unique creation, Jordan’s mother said “It may have to be goodbye, but it can be your goodbye - their goodbye. Funerals can have laughter and creativity as well as love and grief. That’s what we want people to take away from this.”
