Earlier this month we highlighted a few ‘
Awareness Campaigns Happening in March’, but one we failed to mention was the ‘Butterfly Bake’ hosted by
Claire House Children’s Hospice.
This event asks people to roll up their sleeves and get baking throughout the month of March, and then sell the tasty treats to friends, family and colleagues in order to raise money for the hospice.
As with all hospices, Claire House provides end of life care for the seriously and terminally ill, but this Wirral based hospice exclusively cares for children. Specialist nurses, physiotherapists, counsellors and play specialists, all work together to help families through some of the toughest times of their lives.
Claire House is not just a place for children to live out their final days, it is also a place where families can create new memories together. They have a lot of facilities on site, including a hydrotherapy pool, jacuzzi, art room, multi-sensory room, and, for the older teenagers and young adults, there is even a bar complete with Xbox and sound system.
If leaving your child in the care of the hospice full-time is not something that suits your family, then the Claire House team can visit them in hospital or at home, offering advice and assistance however they can. They will even put on regular trips for siblings to make sure they are not missing out.
Charities like Claire House rely heavily on the generosity of the general public, as well as those families who have used the hospice services in the past. One great way of supporting a charity is to ask for donations in memory of someone who has passed away. Maybe their life was positively impacted by the charity, or maybe they were just a big supporter of the charity, but either way a donation in memory of a loved one not only proveds the charity with vital funds to keep doing their great work, but it also leaves a lasting legacy for the loved one who you have lost.
Peter Dunn’s family did just that, and they raised a brilliant £1,300 for Claire House Children’s Hospice, plus an extra £241 in Gift Aid!
