However you do it, start a conversation about mental health
Time to Talk Day was initially launched in 2014 by Time to Change, which was led by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness. The aim is to end mental health stigma and discrimination, by encouraging people to have conversations about mental health with family, friends and colleagues, creating supportive communities where we can talk openly about our mental health.

Time to Talk Day 2022 takes place on Thursday 3rd February. It is a campaign run across the UK by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness, in partnership with Co-op, with the Scottish Association for Mental Health, See Me in Scotland, Inspire and Change Your Mind in Northern Ireland and Time to Change Wales.

How can I take part in Time to Talk Day?

  • Run an event in your community, such as a tea and chat or a group walk
  • Share articles or videos on social media using the hashtag #TimeToTalk
  • Host a session at work to discuss mental health
  • Ask someone how they are doing

Tips for talking about mental health:

  • Listening is the most important thing you can do - listen to and be there for the other person
  • Be patient, and remember it isn’t easy for some people to open up about their struggles with mental health. Even if they are unable to talk to you this time, you have opened the pathway for future conversations
  • Treat the person the same as you always have - one of the reasons people can be hesitant to open up about their mental health is because they are afraid people may treat them differently
