What to Plant to Get Ready for Spring

Spring has sprung! Well, not quite. But as the worst of the winter weather has passed us by, and with both mornings and evenings getting ever lighter, we wanted to bring you a more positive blog.

So, what’s more associated with spring than anything else? Flowers! Gardening has seen a huge upturn in popularity over the last 12 months due to the Coronavirus pandemic, with many stuck at home and unsure what to do with themselves. But what are the best flowers to plant for the coming months? In this blog, I’m going to give you some suggestions for what to plant ready for spring.

Daffodils

Where to begin? Well, how about with one of the most iconic flowers there is: the daffodil. This is an early flowering bulb that really stands out in your garden. If you asked someone to pick the flower most associated with springtime, it’s a good bet that they’d select a daffodil. They’re cheap to buy and easy to care for too, so no better place to start!

Pansy

The pansy is another recognisable spring plant that blooms early in the year, often used in hanging baskets made to ring in the spring. They come in a variety of colours – such as blue, white and purple – so there’s no lack of variety either.

Lily of the Valley

Nowadays, this plant is best known for its appearance in Breaking Bad in the hands of the nefarious Walter White, but Lily of the Valley – as well as having one of the nicest names of any flower – is also notorious for its amazing smell. While planting this now requires patience, as it most likely won’t bloom until later in the springtime, its one that’ll be worth the wait.

Tulip

Another long-time gardener’s favourite, the simple tulip comes in a massive variety of colours, meaning that with just this one plant, you can make your garden into a rainbow! This is another flower which – as it is so common – is cheap to purchase and relatively easy to care for, as good a flower as any to start your gardening ‘career’ with.

Hyacinth

Another plant known almost as well for its scent as its appearance, the hyacinth stands out nicely in a crowded garden, due to its unique rising style. A row of these in front of your house will look lovely at this time of year!

I hope you enjoyed our little trip to the garden centre in today’s blog, and that it inspired you to create a beautiful garden in a year that we could all do with brightening up. For more blogs on a wide range of subjects, please visit funeral-notices.co.uk/blog.
