White Ribbon Day takes place on 25th November 2021. If, like me, you're unsure what it's all about I have spent some time exploring White Ribbon Day, what it stands for, how you can get involved and the 16 days of proposed action to follow.

What is White Ribbon Day?

White Ribbon UK is the leading charity in the UK committed to ending male violence against women. Part of a global movement, their mission is to get all men to commit to the White Ribbon Promise: "to never commit, excuse or remain silent about male violence against women." - whiteribbon.org. More than 38,000 people have already made the promise online. The promise can be made by anyone over the age of fourteen.

The theme for this year's event is #AllMenCan - developed for the organisation in March following the tragic murder of Sarah Everard. The murder of Sarah and subsequent trial and conviction of the perpetrator Wayne Couzens opened up conversations on male violence in many homes, group chats, workplaces and social media and got more women talking about their experiences.

The aim of White Ribbon Day is to reach as many individuals, workplaces, communities and schools as possible. On White Ribbon Day you can get involved by wearing a white ribbon.

Other ways to get involved

Both large and small businesses or organisations can get involved by becoming an accredited or supporter organisation of White Ribbon UK. You can make a difference to the campaign by getting involved on social media using #WhiteRibbon #AllMenCan #MakeThePromise. If you wear a white ribbon on the day, take a photo and upload it to social media and tag White Ribbon UK in your posts on Twitter and Facebook. Spread the word about White Ribbon Day to your friends, family and colleagues and encourage them to wear a white ribbon too.

White Ribbon UK have put together 16 days of action to follow White Ribbon Day all aimed at ending violence against women and some Churches are commemorating the event on 21st November, known as White Ribbon Sunday.

For further information on getting involved or to make a donation, visit the official website whiteribbon.org.
