A great friend of mine and what a kind fun loving bloke. He took me under his wing in Singapore when I first started there. Wise and funny he was a mans man and I don’t think there was a job he hadn’t tried, from policeman, scaffolder. Fish shop owner and eventually when I met him an accommodation superintendent on a new build offshore FPSO.
Great company, great laugh and a great man. Sadly we lost touch when five years after we met and I was transferred to China. John, unfortunately, was downmanned and although sketchy I got a few updates on his run of bad luck in the Philippines. Luckily and quite sadly his family in the uk stepped in to bring him home as he was suffering from cancer. He never tired of talking about them, he really missed them although he put a brave face on it.
I still miss the big fella.
