A rare and wonderful combination of passion for his subject, care, respect and genuine interest in his pupils and a natural gift for teaching. Those students who found themselves in Roger's classes were lucky indeed. Love to Sue and boys xx

My name is Jacqueline Durup and I was a pupil at Clayesmore for 10 years from 1972. Mr Walton Freeman was my geography teacher during my o level time. He was very different to the rather formal and 'stuffy' teachers I had had. He was obviously a lot younger, funny, better looking and could take a joke. I remember we often super glued various things to his desk!!! I remember his little
orange sports car and his involvement with Duke of Edinburgh projects. He was often exasperated with me as I was rubbish at Geography as arts and literature and history was my thing. Before the exam he bet me £5 that I would fail...he paid up, I got a C!! Years later I met up with him and my then partner (also an OC). I was pregnant with my first child and sitting with him and others in a curry house, calling him Roger was fantastic...the curry was good too! I reminded him that he gave me my first experience with Pink Floyd as he took a few of us sixth formers to the little cinema in Shaftesbury to watch the film 'The Wall' and I was blown away...I've been listening to Pink Floyd ever since and often think of him. Let's just say he was one of those educators that had a very positive impact on young people's lives especially if they didnt fit in to the boarding school environment ethos. I remember him so fondly and was so sad to hear of his passing. My heartfelt wishes to all his family and God bless him. He was fab! X
