Farewell
Afscheid by Adriaan Morrien,
translated from the Dutch by AD Capili

Will you be careful?

I know that you’re only running an errand
here at the corner
and that you’re not dressed for a long journey.

Your kiss is light
Your look calm
And tranquil are your hand and foot
But behind this corner
another part of the world,
after this moment
a sea of time.

Will you be careful?

Thank you Dave Curry for sending me this poem

Sincere condolences from myself and the Countryside Access team at North Yorkshire council, where Dave volunteered for many years. He was a lovely volunteer and always keen to help out. The last time I saw him was at our volunteer social last year where we took a walk from Thirsk - Dave was a bit slower than the others who kept getting ahead, much to his consternation! So I walked with him at the back and we had a lovely time, stopping at one point to pet an alpaca we saw in a field along the way, which everyone else had missed.
Condolences to the family,
Arrietty, volunteer coordinator

With good memories of Dave, with whom I walked and talked quite a few times in the Lake District and North Yorkshire Moors. I’m especially grateful for Dave’s story of walking the Tour of Mont Blanc about 25 years ago. He told it with great enthusiasm in glorious detail and complete with maps. It inspired my wife and I to try the same adventure, and quite a few other walking tours in the Alps.
Condolences to his family

In memory of Dave - who introduced me, on a visit with my Mum and Dad, to the type two fun of jamming up a chimney when I was a teenager. It was nice to know that Dave showed interest in my climbing which has since become one of my favourite pastimes and lovely to see some pictures of his daring climbing and scrambling adventures with just a rope tied round his waist.

For "Uncle" Dave, so sorry for your early passing in such a tragic accident. Our families were very close when I was a child and it was always interesting to hear where Dave had been traveling/climbing. The post cards always showed a great view! With sincere sympathy for such a great loss. Alison (nee Gould), Dave and Max Melvin
