DavidDONOVANPassed away on February 19 at Highfield Hall, Haslingden aged 89 years. David was born in Liverpool on August 14, 1933. He came to Rossendale first in mid 1941 to mid 1944 and attended Lumb Church of England school during those years. His final years at school were spent in Liverpool. He returned to Rossendale in 1948 to find work. He was employed at J Butterworth’s Dale Mill for one month then worked at Masco, Albert Works until he was called up for National Service, he did 1 3/4 years National Service then signed on for three years regular service with the colours, then four years on the reserve. After spending a few months at Rossendale Combining Co he was employed at Rawtenstall Post Office from April 1957 to March 1990. He was at one time a member of the Rawtenstall Spiritualist Church and still agreed with their deeper philosophy. He was a member of the Buddhist Society, London since 1982 and a subscriber to the magazine “Buddhism Now” for a few years. His musical tastes included classical, light classical, opera, easy listening, dance bands, and the big band sound, plus traditional jazz and some rock and roll. He was also once a member of Rawtenstall and District Senior Citizens Club, the Ramana Maharshi Foundation and also The Buddhist Society. He would also like to thank his neighbours, and carers who attended him from Home Care Services for helping him in his last days. David leaves behind nephews Donald and Peter, nieces Shirley, Jeanette and Jacqueline and their respective families. David’s funeral will take place on Thursday, March 16 at James Street Chapel of Rest at 1.45pm, followed by a service and cremation at Burley Crematorium at 2.30pm led by Bobby Dawson.
